Tips to Help Keep Your Skin Young and Healthy

People around the world seem to constantly be trying out the latest skin care and cosmetics trends for anti-aging. But younger skin actually goes far beyond the things we lay on top of our bodies. A lot of it actually has to do with our lifestyle.

The Skin Cancer Foundation says more than 90% of the visible changes commonly attributed to skin aging are caused by the sun. Fortunately, there are a lot of things you can do besides staying out of the sun to prevent your skin from rapidly aging, and here are some of them.

Don’t Smoke
Smoking is one of the worst things you can do for your body and your skin. If you haven’t quit already, premature skin aging, stained teeth, wrinkles, increased psoriasis risk, and even cancer could be in your future. Smoking can actually increase wrinkles due to the facial motion of inhaling and exhaling the smoke. It also cuts off blood vessel circulation. Quitting now will keep you looking young and help you maintain that youthful glow.

Eat Antioxidants
In general, a healthy diet is great for your body. Not only does it keep you looking good on the inside, but it also keeps you looking good on the outside. Fruits and vegetables that contain antioxidants are perfect for your skin, so look for foods that contain vitamins B and E. Pile your plate high with fish, poultry, chickpeas, almonds, and even sunflower seeds. These treats can do wonders for your body.

Refrain from Sugar
While sugar isn’t the best for your body as a whole, it can also be terrible for your skin if eaten in high amounts. Researchers actually found a direct link between sugars such as glucose and greater production of advanced glycation end products. Even though sugar isn’t the best for you and your body, it can still be eaten a little bit at a time. So don’t overdo it and you’ll be fine.

While serums, chemical peels, spa services, and other cosmetic procedures are great, there are some things you can do right at home to keep your skin healthy and young. Which of the above tips will you be incorporating into your skin care routine?
